OUR SERVICES

Research
With direct access to the rich institutional resources of the Washington, DC area, and with the freedom to travel as needed, The Scholar's Desk can locate, collect, and organize your project's research materials.

Project Development
The Scholar's Desk will assist with the early development of your project, including the grant writing and book proposal phases, to develop a viable, accessible, manageable, and marketable work. We will provide advice on structure, argument, evidence, style and tone, and other areas as needed.

Project Assessment
We will read and evaluate a draft of your manuscript for structure, argument, presentation of evidence, style, tone, emphasis, and other areas as necessary, to identify merits and shortcomings and to develop strategies for peer review and publication.

Substantive Revisions
We will complete the work outlined in the Project Assessment phase by making substantive improvements to your manuscript.

Revising for Accessibility
The Scholar's Desk can broaden the appeal of a dense, academic-style manuscript by revising it for a wider audience.

Stylistic Revisions
We will enliven and sharpen your language and make minor editing suggestions within paragraphs.

Copyediting
We will correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, and inconsistent references in your manuscript.

Acquiring Images and Permissions
We will take on the tedious tasks of locating images and contacting copyright holders for permission to publish.

Proofreading
We will review typeset galleys and/or page layouts against the original to bring errors to the attention of the publisher.
